David Bexon, Chief Executive of smartnewhomes.com the UK’s leading online new homes specialist, has been named Entrepreneur of the Year at the prestigious Building Awards held on 20 April 2004 at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
The awards were launched ten years ago by Building Magazine and are regarded as the industry’s premier honours event. Around 1600 guests from across the UK attended the ceremony and dinner to celebrate a record year for the construction industry and pay tribute to its leading players.
David Bexon’s award reflects the phenomenal growth of the smartnewhomes.com website, which has developed rapidly since its launch in March 2001. An average month sees the site provide details of over 7000 new homes from more than 80 of the UK’s top house builders to over 400,000 people, adding up to more than 80,000 properties a year. SmartNewHomes.com’s entrepreneurial skills included investing in content partnerships with many top internet portals, including Freeserve, Tiscali, Ask Jeeves and Channel 4. The company also employs a dedicated customer call centre, to make SmartNewHomes.com a comprehensive, multi-channel homebuying service. Based in Wrexham, the company currently employs a staff of 20.

smartnewhomes.com has also been shortlisted for three prestigious National Business Awards. Dubbed the ‘Business Oscars’ by the Chancellor, the Awards showcase business excellence and achievement with previous winners including O2, Sainsburys and Fujitsu. SmartNewHomes has been shortlisted for Entrepreneur of the Year, Growth Strategy of the Year Awards and is a Wales and Westcountry regional finalist.
