CORBRIDGE, Darras Hall, Riding Mill, Medburn, Sedgefield. The list includes some of the most impressive locations in the North East – and builders Meadowcroft have developed new homes in all of them.
The company believes that one of the secrets of its success is that each development has received an attention to detail that has produced bespoke and truly individual homes.
Meadowcroft is a family-owned company, formed by Ray Hall and managed by his son Alasdair. Alasdair explained: “We have no aspiration to do anything other than produce projects of the highest craftsmanship. Meadowcroft lavish time and attention on the details that matter.
“This applies from the very start of the development process, ensuring designs are original and fit into the locality and doesn't stop until the keys are handed over to another delighted customer.”
Back in the late 1980s it would have seemed unlikely that the North East would see the development of new homes that would sell for £1m. Even though it was said that the region's Porsche dealer was selling more cars than any other dealer in the country, the new homes average sales price of £51,500 was the lowest of any region on mainland UK. It was brave indeed, then to start a business that aimed solely at “executive homes” – a description that was barely recognised in the region at that time!
Within 10 years Meadowcroft had helped to break the mould of new home-building in the region and in 2003 sold their first £1m home.
Now in their 21st year, and having created more than 100 customers with individual new homes, the company is determined to extend their particular brand of bespoke, craftsman-built products.
It has just completed a small development of three and four-bedroom homes in West Kyo, County Durham.
This was the company's first venture into lower priced homes, but Alasdair was keen to stress that each one benefited from the same individuality and quality, but bringing the “Meadowcroft approach” within the grasp of more homebuyers, with prices ranging from £159,995 to £240,000.
While acknowledging these “difficult times”, Meadowcroft believes there are still many prospective buyers around and that people are increasingly looking for quality and value but are happy to pay for the quality and an individual approach.
The company is now planning its next development, a dozen or so new homes, each with four or five bedrooms, traditional details and an attractive, desirable location.
