What's RSS?

RSS stands for "Rich Site Summary" and is often referred to as "Really Simple Syndication". It’s a group of web feed formats used to publish information including blogs, news headlines, audio, and video.

This information is delivered via an RSS document, called a "feed", "web feed", or "channel". These feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. The reader who subscribes to an RRS feed receives updates from many sites delivered into one place.

RSS feeds are accessed using software called an "RSS reader", "feed reader", or "aggregator", which can be web-based, desktop-based, or mobile-device-based. A standardized XML file format allows the information to be published once and viewed by many different programs. The user subscribes to a feed by clicking the RSS icon in a browser, thus subscribing.
