Pupils at Oxley Park Primary School in Milton Keynes have been helping to keep building sites safe by designing posters for local developer George Wimpey South Midlands.

The leading housebuilder, which is building a range of family homes at the Oxley Gate development off the H6 Childs Way, Oxley Park invited pupils to take part in a competition to design posters to highlight safety.

Scott Poppleton, Health and Safety Advisor for George Wimpey, also visited the school to give a special talk to pupils outlining the dangers of playing on or around building sites, even when they are quiet, and reminding children that large vehicles can have difficulty seeing small children, that scaffolding, bricks and pipes can collapse causing injury, and that sand can hide sharp metal and glass.

The children were asked to design posters based on what they had learned, and the most creative and persuasive poster is now on display at the development, with its young artist, eleven-year-old pupil Dollie Barton, receiving £50 WH Smith vouchers.

Jason Colmer, Sales & Marketing Director for George Wimpey South Midlands said, “We were delighted to work with the pupils on the Health and Safety poster project.

“Oxley Park Primary School is close to our development and we felt it would be responsible to raise awareness about safety near building sites and the dangers of playing around them.

“Children are very interested in the changes they see around them and with the long summer holidays ahead of us, it would be easy for children to wrongly view the development as a playground.”

Located on the western edge of Milton Keynes, Oxley Gate is within easy reach of thecentre:mk shopping centre, Xscape leisure dome and the Theatre District, yet fringed by woodlands and open countryside.

The showhome and Sales Centre are located off the H6 Childs Way, Oxley Park and open seven days a week from 11am to 5pm.
