David Bexon, Managing Director of smartnewhomes.com, responds to the YouGov Survey showing homebuyers’ priority for energy efficiency when choosing a new home:
“The recent research carried out by YouGov, on behalf of the New Homes Marketing Board, mirrors findings from the smartnewhomes.com National Homebuyer Survey conducted in May this year. Forty-one per cent of new home buyers questioned in our survey also stated that insulation/energy-efficiency of new-build property was one of their primary reasons for buying new, indicating a growing awareness and demand for energy efficient homes.
“While this is partly due to a greater concern from people about the impact of their home on the environment, increasingly cash-conscious homebuyers are now forward planning to ensure that the maintenance and ongoing running costs of their new home are as low as possible.
“The introduction of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) has given homeowners a tangible means to track the eco credentials of their home, and make an informed decision on whether to buy based on this knowledge. EPCs have worked to highlight the environmental credentials of newbuild property, which is now a major reason why people choose to buy new.”
