David Bexon, Managing Director of smartnewhomes.com, responds to the news that Barratt has begun to open new sites:

“We have received several encouraging reports from within the UK housebuilding industry this week, with both Persimmon and Barratt announcing plans to press ahead with more schemes in the latter part of the year.

“The signs are positive that the new homes market is approaching some degree of normality in terms of sales, with the high level of buyer interest experienced early on in 2009 now starting to translate into more transactions, as prices show clear signs of stabilising. While mortgage availability remains a persistent stumbling block, the eagerness of buyers to secure a property before prices start to rise, and the range of incentives offered by developers to assist buyers with their purchase, suggests a more positive outlook for developers over the coming year.”
