When Tony and Annette McCann started looking for a home 18 months ago, they felt that property prices still had further to fall.

But by keeping an eye on the local market, they were able to time it just right to move from their three-bedroom house to a beautiful five-bedroom home at George Wimpey’s Farriers Keep development in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

Now their children, Greg (16) and Natalie (13), are enjoying having the extra space of big new bedrooms – and being within walking distance of the town centre, cinema and gym.

“Our old house in Newcastle-under-Lyme was new when we bought it, but that was in 1990 before our children came along,” says Tony (45), who works in Runcorn, Cheshire for a firm specialising in satellite navigation systems.

“We were also beginning to face the usual home improvement projects and decorating that come with owning an older home, and so the time was right for us to think about moving.

“However, when we first looked last year, we felt that house prices were still a little high, but by February they had reached a good level and we popped in to Farriers Keep. It was then that Sue, the Sales Executive at the development, sold us the dream!”

After viewing a five-bedroom, three-storey ‘Ashleigh’ at the development, the family decided it was the right style of home for them, and used George Wimpey’s Easymover scheme to sell their old house with minimum hassle.

And because they chose their home before it was built, the family was able to choose their kitchen, internal doors, carpets and flooring, all installed to a finish which the family describes as ‘superb’.

“We’re really enjoying having more space,” adds Tony. “Annette is a midwife and does a lot of her paperwork at home. Before we moved she would work at the dining room table, but now we have a spare room for an office and one which will be a guest bedroom.

“The children are also really pleased to be only a 10-minute walk from town – which is great for us too because it means we don’t have to give them lifts all the time!”

While all the new homes for 2009 have sold out at popular Farriers Keep, customers can still make a smart move like Tony and Annette – by reserving their new home for 2010 at today’s lower prices.

These include the magnificent five-bedroom detached ‘Mayfair’, which combines a wealth of comfort and space to suit modern family living from just £320,000.

The ‘Mayfair’ features a delightfully spacious kitchen/breakfast room with an extra laundry area, a large lounge with attractive bay window to the front, a separate family room/home office, and a formal dining room with French doors to the rear garden. An entrance hallway and a guest cloakroom complete the ground floor accommodation, while outside there is a detached double garage.

Upstairs, the landing leads to four well-proportioned bedrooms, two with en-suite facilities, and a family bathroom with corner bath.

A beautiful master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, separate dressing room and a peaceful study can be found on the top floor.

Customers can alternatively choose the four-bedroom ‘Priory’ from £224,995, the three-bedroom ‘Rothwell’ from only £153,750 and the two-bedroom ‘Aston’ house starting at just £137,000.

All new homes at the development benefit from a high standard specification including gas central heating, double glazing and a fitted kitchen with built-in oven, hob and hood.

Farriers Keep is situated to the west of Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre, within easy reach of variety of local amenities including a shopping centre and a golf club.

The town is home to a wide choice of leisure amenities, health facilities, schools and nurseries, while Stoke-on-Trent, which offers a vast array of bars, restaurants, theatres and nightlife, is just a 10-minute drive from the development.

Commuters will also appreciate that the M6 motorway is just a short drive away, putting Manchester and Birmingham within easy reach.

George Wimpey offers a range of deals tailor-made for all types of buyers, and for those with a property to sell, the leading housebuilder’s easymover programme offers a range of attractive incentives on selected properties.
