A George Wimpey site manager in Buckinghamshire has taken another step on the road to ultimate awards glory – after winning through to the final rounds of a top UK building industry competition.
Nigel Mitchell, site manager at the Oxley Woods development in Milton Keynes, has been presented with a Seal of Excellence gong at the prestigious 2009 National House-Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job awards.
The Seal of Excellence is one of the top honours handed out by the NHBC each year in recognition of outstanding commitment to producing high-quality new homes and to maintaining exceptional standards in every aspect of building work.
Nigel’s latest triumph comes after he was earlier chosen to receive an NHBC Quality Award.
Only 130 site managers are picked for the Seal of Excellence from 400 Quality Award winners across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Each recipient is a step closer towards winning the NHBC’s coveted national Supreme Award, only four of which are presented each year.
Peter Gurr, Regional Managing Director for Taylor Wimpey South Midlands, says: “Everyone in the company is extremely proud of Nigel for his latest achievement, and he deserves our warmest congratulations.
“Winning the Quality Award was an achievement in itself, but to go on to clinch the Seal of Excellence is taking his success to a whole new level.
“Nigel’s expertise and dedication to his work reflects our commitment to building the highest quality new homes, and he should rightly be held up as a shining example to others.
“We wish him the very best of luck in the next stage of this prestigious competition.”
Seal of Excellence winners really are the cream of the crop when it comes to delivering outstanding new homes and maintaining the safest and most efficient building sites.
The 130 recipients are whittled down from 400 Quality Award winners who are, in turn, selected from more than 18,000 NHBC-registered housebuilders running sites up and down the UK.
Each site manager undergoes a stringent selection process with independent judges visiting developments at key stages of the construction process to assess them on all aspects of house building.
Nigel will now go on to compete in the next round of the competition, which selects a single winner from each region before choosing the UK’s four Supreme Award winners at a gala ceremony in January.
