The number of registrations to build new homes has risen to 9,163 - the highest level since July 2008, the NHBC has revealed.

NHBC’s October figures for the UK also show that it received 24,896 applications to build new homes between August and October of this year, a 27% improvement on the same period in 2008.

Private sector applications from August to October were up 45%, increasing from 11,507 for the same period last year to 16,630.

Imtiaz Farookihi, NHBC’s chief executive, commented: “It is encouraging that this month’s figures yet again show steady improvement in housebuilding, supporting what many in the industry are saying – that the worst may be over.”
