Today's consumer demands more from new homes on the market, according to a developer that is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
Miller Homes took a look back to when it first established itself as a housebuilder in the UK and noted the changing tastes of owners.
Nowadays, the industry responds to modern needs for property features such as downstairs and en suite bathrooms.
Sue Warwick is national sales and marketing director for the company and said the way people purchase properties is also much different today.
"The good news is that women can now have a mortgage on their own, which wasn't the case in 1934.
"It's not just the girls that get a fairer deal in the property market now."
Some of the modern advantages of the housing market were also summed up by Ms Warwick, including shared equity schemes and the government's HomeBuy Direct initiative.
This enables buyers to borrow up to 30 per cent of the price of a house and pay it back over time.
