When Maureen and Norman Johnston decided after 12 happy years to move from their George Wimpey show home near Chester, they did not know that they would find their next home at another Wimpey development, this time Taylor Wimpey, way over near Thirsk.

The Johnstons were keen to downsize to a new home as the position of their home, on top of a hill, was no longer ideal. They decided Yorkshire was the place to go, to be near their eldest son and family.

Like many buyers before them, the Johnstons fell under the charm of a three storey home, even thought it was the total opposite to what they were looking for.

Maureen said: “We really liked Yorkshire and Mill Gardens is in a beautiful location right near to Thirsk and there’s a beck nearby which is lovely to walk along.

“We first began looking for a bungalow as we thought it would be easier to manage, but then a friend said that a house with stairs would be better as it would keep us active. It proved to be a good idea, as it helped us in choosing the right property. It’s great!”

The ground floor of the Johnston's four bedroom Skipton home has a cloakroom, kichen with dining area and a conservatory, added on by the couple. The first floor has a lounge, bathroom and fourth bedroom which is now a study. The main en-suite bedroom plus two further bedrooms are located on the second floor."

Maureen continued: “We were really attracted to a new build home as it meant that we would have to do little in the way of decorating. Although a three storey home wasn’t what we were looking for it has turned out really well. Our neighbours are lovely and Alyson the sales executive has helped settle us in as much as possible.”

Alyson Boston, Taylor Wimpey sales executive at Mill Gardens, said: “The fact that Maureen and Norman appreciate the three storey home shows how wide its appeal is. If you’re looking for a new home in the area then come and see what we have to offer and the beautiful area we’re located in. You could have Maureen and Norman as neighbours soon!”

When complete, Mill Gardens will comprise 98 high quality properties, including two, three, four and five bedroom terraced and semi-detached homes and four bedroom detached homes.

Three storey homes are often popular with home buyers because of the versatility they offer. Bedrooms can be turned into a study, gym, playroom or walk-in wardrobe. Having three storeys also means that family members have their own space while having more than one bathroom banishes morning queues for the shower.

Homes at Mill Gardens currently start at just £189,950 for a three bedroom, two bathroom Portland home. Also available are four bedroom, three storey Skipton homes, four bedroom, three storey Warwick townhouses and a new release of five bedroom Helmsley townhouse.
