The government has taken another step towards zero carbon, announcing the minimum standard for the energy efficiency of zero carbon homes.
The new Fabric Energy Efficiency Standard focuses on the fabric of the home – walls, floors, roofs, windows and doors. An energy efficiency target of 39 kWh/sq m/per year has been suggested for apartments and mid terrace homes, and 46 kWh for semi-detached and detached homes.
Government has had the help of the specialist task group that the Zero Carbon Hub was asked to form in the summer. The Zero Carbon Hub’s chief executive Neil Jefferson said: “The Fabric Energy Efficiency Standard is a critically important step towards the delivery of zero carbon homes from 2016.”
