McCarthy & Stone’s Cumbrae Court in Largs is now home to author of over 40 published novels and former journalist, Evelyn Hood. The company is delighted to be hosting a free book event and signing by the popular author, including a presentation by Evelyn Hood on her life and works, on Tuesday 8 December, 2009 from 2pm in the resident’s lounge at Cumbrae Court itself.
Evelyn Hood is best known for family sagas, set mainly in her hometown of Paisley (Renfrewshire) and on the Clyde coast. She is also the author of FORWARD BY DEGREES, a history of the University of Paisley commissioned to mark the university's centenary as a place of further education, and of MILL MEMORIES, a collection of interviews with men and women who worked in Paisley's two great thread mills during the 20th century.
During her time as a journalist Evelyn wrote features and news stories as well as a woman's page. She has also published six one-act stage plays which are regularly performed all over the world, mainly in drama festivals, a Scottish pantomime, a children's musical, and a number of short stories and articles. Unpublished but performed stage work includes a full-length play, four pantomimes, six children's musicals and a collection of monologues and sketches. An adjudicator, lecturer and tutor on most aspects of writing, Evelyn also runs workshops in both primary and secondary schools.
Situated right in the heart of the popular seaside town of Largs on the west coast of Scotland, and close to the main shopping area of the town, Cumbrae Court is a contemporary development offering a mix of 43 one and two bedroom apartments which are now completed and available to move straight into.
The development itself is located behind the famous Nardini’s ice-cream parlour and café on the town’s promenade, whilst some of the apartments have sea-views across the Firth of Clyde towards Great Cumbrae Island.
