A builder of
affordable homes has been recognised for a particular initiative at one of its community properties.
Derwent Living's Butterfly Project has been successful in taking home the title of Complex Needs winner from the Guardian's Public Service Awards.
The Derby-based women's refuge is managed by the firm and has been running for 15 years to cater for women wanting to escape domestic violence.
However, the Butterfly Project started just a year ago to help women who may have other issues such as drug problems too.
Manager of the refuge Donna Webb said: "The facility means that we are now able to accommodate women with additional needs, which we haven't been able to do before, and there was a great need for in the area."
Derwent Living provides low-cost properties with rents that are said to be under the average market value, to ensure the availability of
affordable homes from large family properties to small studio flats - which are allocated according to a points system.
