The government has launched the keenly awaited consultation on a revision of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The consultation document outlines three areas of improvement for the Code, which was launched in April 2007 as a voluntary standard to improve the sustainability of new homes. The government seeks to bring the Code up to date with the latest developments in the zero carbon homes policy, streamline standards and processes so that the Code focuses on the issues of greatest significance, and resolve problems arising from putting the Code into practice.

“The Code has proved its worth, but now it is time to make it a more user friendly standard for consumers,” housing minister John Healey said.
