People seeking to purchase a property in Didcot may welcome news that the area is to see a number of new homes constructed.

Local councillor John Cotton revealed that by this time next year, work will be underway on a 3,340-home development, the Oxford Times reports.

The news comes after an 18-month delay in major building projects caused by the economic downturn.

Mr Cotton remarked: "Things have just not happened so far because of what has happened in the housing market and the rest of the economy."

He added that everything in Didcott is "predicated on moving forwards with housing"

This year will mark the turning point for the area, he went on to suggest.

In another recent property development, One Housing officially opened its Mastmaker Road scheme of 142 new residences last month on the Isle of Dogs, which it described as being close to Canary Wharf and perfect for families.
