Barratt is to be among the property builders to sit on a panel of firms which will be involved in the creation of new homes on public land.
The firm, which is part of the Barratt Group - an organisation with roots tracing back to 1958 - has been placed on a government framework which will see the development of 1,250 houses being built on land owned by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
It was established as part of the Public Land Initiative and the framework is split into three regions - northern, central and southern.
Public agencies will be required to sign up to a letter of agreement with the HCA and a separate framework contract to use the panel of builders.
Eamonn Boylan, director of new ventures and partnerships at the HCA, remarked: "Several construction firms have been successful, many bringing with them experience of the planning system and of partnerships with the public sector."
