People looking to invest in property have been advised to look at London as a potential location.

London Central Portfolio said that the city is appealing and desirable for investors and buyers, which has led to it doing better than other 'asset classes' during the recession.

Naomi Heaton, chief executive of the firm, noted that although the capital is not immune from wider economic conditions, it is a solid investment for the long term.

"The low cost of sterling makes London particularly attractive to overseas investors at this time," she explained.

"In addition, residential property has historically been a very good hedge against inflation, which is anticipated to rise in the UK over the next few years."

According to the most recent Land Registry figures, house prices in London increased at the highest annual rate in November 2009 compared to the rest of England and Wales.
