A new report has highlighted how pressure on developers to supply affordable housing in rural areas is set to increase in the next few years.
The Commission for Rural Communities (CRC) claims in its study, State of the Countryside, that the population of the countryside is expected to grow by 35 per cent by 2031.
Also, between 2006 and 2031 there will be 356,000 new households added every five years in predominantly rural districts.
The CRC argues that there needs to be larger new developments distributed evenly within rural districts to cope with the substantial demand.
It adds that the countryside communities are "already leading the way in utilising new technologies, with new business start-ups often commencing at the home."
Housing is "providing places to live and work", claim the report's authors.
Today (February 3rd), it was announced that the creation of a National Park in the South Downs is likely to boost house prices in the park's vicinity by up to ten per cent.
