Council chiefs in Kilburn, north London have saved an affordable housing development project from stalling.
The executive of Camden Council has granted £960,000 from its Affordable Housing Fund to the Origin Housing Association, which is to deliver the building work.
Councillor James King said: "The council are now in a position to provide vital financial support to the development to ensure it is delivered and it will be 100 per cent social housing."
A number of private flats were planned alongside the affordable flats but the mixed scheme faltered due to the recession.
The housing association's decision to make the development wholly comprised of social housing prompted the council to supply the additional funding, which will equate to £30,000 per flat.
The homes will be former offices above retail units, which are expected to bring business to the area once they reopen after the development work is finished.
Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, has promised 50,000 affordable new homes for Londoners, by the 2012 Olympics.
