The government's newly launched three-part Greener Homes Strategy has been praised by National Energy Action (NEA).
Yesterday (March 3rd) the government launched the plan which aims for all homes, included those in the rental sector, to be warmer and greener by 2020.
Some of the aims outlined in the document included fitting smart meters and loft and cavity wall insulation in every home in which the measures are feasible.
Alongside the £10,000 loans offered to homeowners through high-street outlets, those that live in urban areas can benefit from district heating in commercial and public sector buildings.
The measures follow up the government's Low Carbon Transition Plan (LCTP), which was laid out towards the end of 2009. The LCTP aims for there to be a 29 per cent reduction in cutting emissions from fossil fuels in homes.
Jenny Saunders, chief executive of the NEA, said: "By delivering more effectively through local authority partnerships (which NEA has been calling for) the government is placing local leadership at the centre of their plans."
Ms Saunders highlighted the importance of Warm Zones, an earlier NEA programme that delivered energy-efficiency improvements to fuel poor households.
