The property market may be kick-started by new government developments to clear away red tape from the planning process.
Housing minister John Healey announced this week that appeals from homeowners against rejected planning permission applications will be decided within a deadline of eight weeks, in the way most appropriate to their case -either a written method, hearing or inquiry.
Conditions around installing microgeneration equipment such as wind turbines and solar panels on personal property will be relaxed so that homeowners do not have to enter into an extended planning process.
Stripping away such regulations and red tape will also help the government reach its aim of cutting carbon emissions from homes, an initiative it reinforced this week through the launch of green home loans.
These new proposals will come into force in 2010 and are expected to deliver around £11 million in savings for businesses and up to £25 million for councils every year.
