The government has launched a new consultation today (March 09) that aims to help councils learn more about approving green developments.
Alongside two other initiatives that will boost the number of green council houses, councils will also get additional support in approving projects that can help meet the government's target of all new homes being zero-carbon by 2016.
Councils have been given almost £10 million to help them update their technical knowledge and expertise about green technologies and engineering.
East Devon Council and Fareham Borough Council have applied to be part of the second wave of eco-towns.
Funding may be used by local authorities to get projects off the ground and help create housing sites that will deliver energy and emissions savings by allowing people to live more environmentally-friendly lifestyles.
An additional consultation has been announced to help councils create 'green infrastructure' such as parks, cycle-ways and rivers to support the energy savings from newly constructed zero carbon homes.
