Holiday home owners in the UK have been renting out their homes for holidaymakers in ever increasing numbers.
A new report from Holiday Lettings found that holiday homes in the UK saw a 40 per cent increase in enquiries in 2009.
Some of the rise may be attributed to property owners keeping prices at 2008 rates and promoting special offer prices to pull in spontaneous last minute holiday bookers.
The UK proved overall to be the second most popular destination for foreigners wanting to maximise their holiday money and for British people wanting a 'staycation'.
According to the site, property owners have also been more 'creative' in attracting potential holiday renters.
Households have used a variety of social media tools including Twitter and Facebook to increase their exposure in the holiday rentals market.
Ross Elder, the managing director of the company, said that such an increase in people renting out their own holiday homes shows that newer purchasers are keen for the property to pay for itself.
