House hunters continued to invest in
affordable homes in February in spite of the unusually cold weather.
This is according to new figures from the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), which revealed that the search for new homes was maintained in spite of the freezing temperatures recorded across Britain.
The average estate agent sold 6.8 properties in February, an increase from January's total of 5.7.
NAEA president Gary Smith said he was pleased to see
property investment doing well despite the freezing conditions.
"These figures suggest that there's an increasing appetite for property which will feed recovery over the next few months as the weather improves," he explained.
"This growing confidence is reflected in the fact that
first time buyers now take up a quarter of the market."
Last month, NAEA chief executive Peter Bolton-King said that buyers "are out there" but many are finding it difficult to get on the property ladder because of the money required for upfront deposits.
