Liverpool couple Joy and David Edmunds have swapped their 100-year-old terrace for a brand new home without sacrificing any of the character – thanks to Redrow’s ‘Arts and Crafts’ influenced New Heritage Collection.
They’ve bagged themselves a three-bedroom detached home at Cressington Heath, near Garston, that’s got the traditional looks they love, including a bay window, leaded windows and feature larch lap boarding; but inside is spacious, bright and modern with contemporary kitchen and bathroom fittings.
Said Joy, a sales assistant with John Lewis, in Liverpool: “We really didn’t plan to buy a new-build home until we saw Redrow’s latest designs. We reserved our home off-plan after seeing computer generated images and now we’ve seen the show home of the same house design we are absolutely blown away. It’s got so much character for a new home, we can’t wait for our own property to be ready.”
Joy and medical courier David, both 37, are currently living locally with David’s parents whilst their three-bedroom ‘Warwick’ is built.
“Our previous home was a three-bedroom terrace with a back yard,” explained Joy. “We can’t believe we’ve been able to afford a brand new detached home with its own garden and a garage, the novelty of an en-suite and a fantastically fitted kitchen with more appliances than we could ever have hoped for. It’s almost too good to be true.”
The pair are also looking forward to an easy life after spending the last nine years in a century-old property that needed constant attention.
“Not only was our new Redrow home very affordable, it should also be cost-effective in the long run; with no nasty surprises in the shape of unexpected repair bills and all the benefits of modern insulation and energy efficiency to help keep fuel bills in check,” Joy added.
The New Heritage Collection, as featured at Cressington Heath, is a set of 34 different homes inspired by one of the most popular and enduring of domestic architectural styles. The influence of the Arts and Crafts era (c1850 – 1915) can be seen in many so-called ‘character’ homes from later periods, especially the 1920s and 1930s.
And just as the Arts and Crafts movement grew from the desire to bring back the skill and creativity of the individual craftsman and revive the simplicity and honesty in the way buildings and furnishings were made, Redrow has deliberately set out to reintroduce a high degree of individuality to the way its homes look and feel.
At Cressington Heath, just three-and-a-half miles south of Liverpool city centre, it’s resulted in a choice of traditionally styled, three and four-bedroom homes from just £161,495 to £269,995.
