When it came to searching for their first home to share together Sam Pedley and Faye Dudley had a number of boxes to tick. It had to be affordable, situated in a desirable location, spacious and new.
The couple found it all at The Hedgerows, Taylor Wimpey Midlands’ development in Dudley, and snapped up a three bedroom, three storey terraced home using the Government’s HomeBuy Direct scheme*.
Sam, 25, said: “We were both living at home which was fine as we get on well with our parents, but we really wanted to move in together and enjoy our own space. We discounted renting because we didn’t want to spend our hard earned cash paying off someone else’s mortgage and we didn’t want to settle for a tiny bedsit just to get on to the property ladder.
“Having recently graduated we have very little savings and thought it would take at least two years to buy a decent property. We never dreamed we’d be able to get a beautiful home like this with such a small deposit. Thanks to Taylor Wimpey Midlands and the HomeBuy Direct scheme we have made our first step on to the property ladder.”
HomeBuy Direct is aimed at helping purchasers with a 5% deposit and a household income of less than £60,000 afford the home they want*. An interest free equity loan is available for up to 30 percent of the value of the property, co-funded by the Homes and Communities Agency and Taylor Wimpey Midlands. For example, the initiative means that if you qualify for a mortgage of £140,000, you could buy a property worth up to £200,000.
Sam added: “We are so glad we came to see Jan, the sales consultant at The Hedgerows, as we love our new home and our independence. We were able to move straight in, without having to spend any time or money doing DIY and could put our own stamp on our home. We are within easy reach of our family, friends and jobs and have plenty of space for people to come and stay. The Hedgerows offers us exactly what we were looking for – a great home at an excellent price in a fantastic location!”
Anne Wallace, regional sales and marketing director, comments: “We are really pleased that we have been able to help Sam and Faye afford to buy their first home at The Hedgerows. If you are a first time buyer looking to make a step onto the property ladder then why not come and see us? We recognise that buying a home can be a financially daunting prospect and we want to try and lessen the burden, making buying as stress-free and affordable as possible.
“We’re offering the HomeBuy Direct scheme as we believe it is a great way for purchasers to afford their first home. With a minimum income of just £19,000 and monthly repayments starting at just £414, purchasers can get their foot on the ladder by buying a home for only £78,397**! Why not come along to talk to our team about how we can help you to buy your dream home in Dudley?”
The Hedgerows is situated in a fantastic location in Gornal, on the edge of Dudley. There are numerous amenities on the doorstep including The Merry Hill Shopping Centre which houses over 200 stores – perfect for a rainy day.
Those looking to travel further afield will find the transport networks excellent. The A461, A459 and M5 are all within easy reach and the train station in Dudley offers frequent services to Birmingham and Wolverhampton. When you want to get away from it all, Birmingham International Airport is under 30 miles away.
