Retirement developer McCarthy & Stone has unveiled an exciting new scheme designed to help retirees living at its Laurel Court development in Cheriton travel freely and easily around Kent.
This week, residents at the Assisted Living development turned out to see McCarthy & Stone’s regional managing director, Mike French, hand over the keys to a nine seater minibus to Cheryl Dyer the estate manager at Laurel Court, and introduce them to their dedicated driver, Dylan Davies.
Mike explains: “This is the first residents’ bus that we as a company have provided one of our developments with and, if a success, will be something that we will look to roll out at other sites across the country. Laurel Court is an Assisted Living development, which means additional support is available for those individuals needing it in later life, and the new bus service will further strengthen this commitment.”
Cheryl Dyer, estate manager at Laurel Court, comments: “We are delighted to have been selected for the minibus pilot scheme and believe it will really add value for residents at Laurel Court. As an Assisted Living development, many of our residents do suffer from mobility issues or worry about travelling on their own. The new bus will help alleviate these concerns and I’m sure will be welcomed by everyone.”
The free bus service will be available to all residents at Laurel Court to use for predetermined journeys to local amenities.
Laurel Court comprises 70 one and two bedroom Assisted Living apartments. All apartments are fully wheelchair accessible and benefit from level access wardrobes, a level access shower and separate bath with grab rails, slip resistant vinyl flooring and an electrically operated kitchen window. An estates manager, 24 hour on-site staff and emergency call points and waitress service restaurant offering a midday meal every day of the year are also available.
Furthermore, residents benefit from an hour of domestic assistance each week as part of their service charge and personal care assistance can also be organised for those individuals who require it, at an additional cost.
