When retiree Barbara Taylor (67) gave up life in the city to be closer to her family and bought an apartment at McCarthy & Stone’s retirement development Reeves Court in Camberley, she had no idea how much she would benefit from the move.

Barbara had spent many happy years living in her one bedroom apartment in Chiswick but, when she reached retirement, decided she wanted to move closer to her brother and sister-in-law in Camberley. While staying with them one Christmas, they came across McCarthy & Stone’s Reeves Court development on Frimley Road and popped in to have a look around.

Barbara explains: “I decided that if I was going to move, I wanted a low maintenance property. My apartment in Chiswick was in need of some work but I didn’t want the hassle and the cost of getting the work done. When I looked around Reeves Court, I was amazed – it was just like a hotel!

“Everything was brand new and what’s more, there was a residents’ lounge and a library/ computer room for everyone to use. I made the decision almost there and then that I wanted to move to Reeves Court and went back to Chiswick to get the ball rolling.”

However, shortly after the visit, Barbara became unwell. She explains: “I developed some breathing problems and was in and out of hospital, which meant my move to Reeves Court was delayed. But being unwell made me absolutely certain in my own mind it was the right time to move.”

Barbara moved into her new apartment at Reeves Court in August 2009. “I couldn’t be happier,” she explains, “and since moving, my health has significantly improved. The air is cleaner here but I’ve also got the peace of mind that there is a house manager at the development and I have 24 hour emergency call points in my apartment should I become ill and need assistance.

“I’ve been here for seven months now and I still think it’s like living in a hotel! I use the computer in the library almost every day and I’ve joined the jigsaw club at the development. I also go to the weekly coffee mornings so I’m not only closer to my family, I now live next door to so many like-minded people. That said, everyone still has their own front door so no-one loses their independence in any way.

“Camberley is also a great location and, as I don’t drive, this is really important. There is a bus stop outside the development and the train station is just down the road so I can get around very easily indeed!”

Reeves Court is conveniently situated on Frimley Road, less than half a mile from Camberley’s bustling and vibrant town centre, and offers 34 stylish one and two bedroom retirement apartments.

Each apartment at Reeves Court benefits from features designed especially for retirement living, including 24-hour emergency call points, electrical sockets at a raised height to reduce bending, illuminated light switches, a video entry system, easy grip lever taps in the bathroom and kitchen and energy efficient heating.

For further information on the properties and lifestyle available at Reeves Court, please visit the show complex open Friday and Saturday from 10.30am to 5.00pm
