Almost £3.5 million of Government funding will help bring more affordable homes to parts of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire – and accelerate the building of other much-needed homes for sale.

Redrow developments in Sherburn in Elmet and Malton, in North Yorkshire, Doncaster, in South Yorkshire, Halifax, in West Yorkshire, and Grimsby and Barton upon Humber, in North Lincolnshire, are among those to benefit from the latest round of ‘Kickstart’ funding via the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA).

Redrow has made a start on building the new homes at all six locations.

The money will prompt the building of 397 homes in total, with 150 of them available to buy through HomeBuy Direct, a Government-backed scheme which makes home ownership more affordable for those with an annual household income less than £60,000.

Purchasers can take out an equity loan for up to 30% of the initial purchase price, jointly funded by the HCA and Redrow, and interest free for the first five years. It’s available to first time buyers, those returning to the property market after a change in circumstances such as a marriage or relationship break-up and potentially families who can demonstrate a need for extra space.

The Kickstart funding also unlocks 197 private sale homes on Redrow developments or phases which were stalled when the recession hit; and a further 50 homes will be available for social rent on four of the developments.

John Grime, managing director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), based in Wakefield, said: “We’re pleased that the importance of these schemes has been recognised by Government and to have been allocated a portion of the latest ‘Kickstart’ funds. This money is allowing us to bring forward new developments or new phases of existing projects more quickly than anticipated, thus meeting local housing need for quality homes at an affordable price.”

As part of the Kickstart initiative, Redrow Homes will also create a number of apprentice roles on site for young people to learn specific skills within the building trade.

The Redrow developments covered by the Kickstart funding are:

Saxon Court, Sherburn in Elmet: New phase of 62 homes, including 15 which will be available through HomeBuy Direct and 25 which will be sold on the open market. Designs will be from Redrow’s recently launched New Heritage Collection of traditional looking homes with contemporary interiors.

Priorpot Mews, Norton, Malton: Fifty-one homes, including 15 offered through HomeBuy Direct and 31 for private sale. New phase of a 218-property development, which is boosting affordable homes in a rural area.

Danum St Giles, Doncaster: New phase of 75 homes brought forward as part of a 165-property scheme. Thirty of the latest homes will be available through HomeBuy Direct and 33 on the open market.

Keighley Road, Halifax: A brand new development on the site of the former Sykes Mill; 70 of the 89 properties are covered by the Kickstart funding and 30 of them will be offered with HomeBuy Direct. The new venture will include two, three and four-bedroom homes plus some apartments, all from Redrow’s New Heritage Collection.

Fox’s Fold, Barton upon Humber: New phase of 68 houses, including designs from the ‘Arts & Crafts’ influenced New Heritage Collection. HomeBuy Direct will be available on 30 of the Kickstart funded homes.

Kirks Paddock, Grimsby: Thirty properties will also be offered with HomeBuy Direct in this latest phase of 71 Kickstart funded homes. The overall development features 315 properties and the new phase will include designs from the New Heritage Collection.
