People in Clarkston are invited to join residents at McCarthy & Stone’s Aidans View development this month to celebrate VE Day 65 years on and help raise vital funds for The Royal British Legion.

The event is taking place on 14 May, 2010 from 2pm-4pm, and residents and visitors will be able to enjoy a 40’s style sing-along with Aidan View’s own resident entertainer Mr Chick Harper in support of The Royal British Legion. There are complimentary drinks and canapés, and the company will make a generous £15 donation to The Royal British Legion for every new visitor to the development who takes a tour of the show apartment.

Claire Dunlop, marketing executive for McCarthy & Stone in Scotland comments: “Anyone who lived through the war will remember what they were doing the day it ended and we wanted to join The Royal British Legion in marking the 65th anniversary of VE Day. We hope that our commemorative event will help raise vital funds for the Legion and we welcome anyone who wants to come along and join in the celebrations!”

McCarthy & Stone has this month announced The Royal British Legion as its ‘Charity of the Year’. The charity has been chosen due to the affinity many of McCarthy & Stone’s residents share with the Legion, especially those who have family or friends in the Armed Forces or are veterans themselves.

Over the next 12 months, the retirement developer will hold various on-site events and staff fundraising in order to generate funds vital for the ongoing help and welfare the charity provides to serving and ex-Service communities and their families.

The Royal British Legion will be officially marking the VE Day anniversary on Saturday 8th May with The Nation’s Greatest Ever Salute. For more information, please log on to www.britishlegion.org.uk
