The secret of a happy marriage is having fun together, according to Jack and Sheila Dolby-Glover and they should know, as they have just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a big party.
The couple marked the special milestone with a huge cake, glasses of bubbly and a dance with friends and family in the residents’ lounge of McCarthy & Stone’s Burlington Court development, in Bridlington, where Sheila and Jack live.
Sheila, 81, said: “We are so happy here at Burlington Court because there is such a friendly, happy community atmosphere. We all love a get together so it’s no surprise that we had such a fun time at our party, which was planned to perfection. It really was a wonderful treat to be able to share our special anniversary with so many friends and family, all chatting and dancing in the residents’ lounge. We had a beautifully decorated cake to share and we received so many cards from everyone – I think we had over 80 in the end, including one from the Queen, which was a lovely surprise!”
Jack, 84, and Sheila moved to Burlington Court from their bungalow in North Devon after their daughter, who lives in Wakefield, saw an advert for the development in the local paper.
Jack, a retired colliery mechanical engineer, explained: “After spending many years living a long way from our family in Yorkshire we decided to move back up north to be closer to them. We had already visited a McCarthy & Stone development in Bideford and really liked the lifestyle offered, enabling us to maintain our independence but also have access to support if needed. We also loved the apartments which we thought looked very luxurious. We knew Bridlington from our years spent living in Pontefract as we regularly used to visit the town for the day, as it is such a pretty place. As such, we thought we’d take a look at Burlington Court and on our second visit to the development we bought a two bedroom top floor apartment with a lovely large lounge.
“As we had already sold our bungalow in Devon we had an excellent deal from McCarthy & Stone and could move into our new apartment straight away. We can’t fault the service we received from the team who were excellent, helping us every step of the moving process. We would thoroughly recommend McCarthy & Stone to anyone.”
