Residents and visitors to McCarthy & Stone’s Townsend Court Assisted Living development in Rushden raised £70 for the Royal British Legion, at a special open day to celebrate the development’s first anniversary.

Rushden Flower Arranging Club demonstrated how to make beautiful displays in the home, as gifts or for special occasions and the arrangements were auctioned off in aid of the Royal British Legion, McCarthy & Stone’s new charity of the year.

Following the demonstrations residents and visitors enjoyed a three course lunch in the waitress service restaurant at the development. Afternoon tea was accompanied by the beautiful music of a string trio, played in the stunning galleried library and the special anniversary celebrations were rounded off with a cheese and wine evening.

Robin Pike, sales and marketing manager for McCarthy & Stone Midlands, explains: “We were thrilled to welcome so many visitors to our fantastic day of events and wish to thank everyone for their generosity in helping us to raise so much money for the Royal British Legion.

“If you missed our special anniversary celebrations but are keen to find out more about the lifestyle you could be enjoying at Townsend Court, why not come and see us? Our expert team is on hand to guide you through the moving process and can answer any questions you may have.”

While most conventional retirement living developments have been designed for independent living, incorporating facilities like a 24 hour Careline, a residents’ lounge, guest suite, laundry room and a house manager, Assisted Living developments like Townsend Court also provide additional facilities and support services.

There is a waitress service restaurant, offering a midday meal every day of the year and as part of the service charge, one hour of domestic assistance is available each week. Personal care can be arranged via the appointed care agency to suit residents’ needs and staff are on site 24 hours a day, for added peace of mind.

Assisted Living apartments are generally larger, making moving around the apartment easier for wheelchair users. They also benefit from a level access shower in addition to a bath and the fitted kitchen includes an electrically operated window, avoiding the need to struggle and lean across work surfaces to open them.
