Eric Pickles has been appointed Communities and Local Government Secretary in David Cameron's new coalition cabinet.

Pickles has considerable local government experience having been leader of Bradford District Council for three years up to 1991. He was shadow communities and local government secretary up until January last year when he became chairman of the Conservative party and Caroline Spelman was given the shadow CLG role.
