McCarthy & Stone, the UK market leader in retirement living, has chosen The Royal British Legion as its ‘Charity of the Year’ from the 1st May. The company aims to raise at least £30,000 for the charity which provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served or are serving in the armed forces, and their families.
The partnership was launched recently with a visit by McCarthy & Stone’s chief executive Howard Phillips to the Poppy Factory in Richmond, where 38 million Remembrance poppies, 5 million Remembrance petals, 900,000 crosses and 100,000 wreaths are produced every year.
Howard Phillips said The Royal British Legion is a charity with which McCarthy & Stone residents have a real affinity. He commented: “Our customers are all over 60 and many are either veterans themselves or have family or friends who are current or ex-Service people. The Legion is one of the UK’s leading military charities with a really strong heritage and we’re delighted to be partnering with them in this way.”
McCarthy & Stone will be raising money over the next 12 months through a combination of events on site, fundraising by staff and selling poppies on nearly 150 developments across the UK during this year’s Poppy Appeal.
