Remember the old saying ‘everyone needs good neighbours’? Well at McCarthy & Stone’s Vernon Court development in Offerton and Woodgrove Court development in Hazel Grove, you couldn’t ask for a better neighbour – the House Manager who is always on hand to help.
Overseeing the general maintenance of the development, the House Manager organises a range of social events in the central lounge and is also a friend and neighbour to residents.
With Neighbours’ Day around the corner (on Friday 28th May) McCarthy & Stone asked house manager Dawn Earp what she loves most about her role and what people can expect when they move in to a McCarthy & Stone development.
“I love meeting new residents and helping them to settle in to their new home,” said Dawn. “Here there’s a lot less for people to worry about. I oversee the running of the development - inside and out - which means people don’t have to think about doing their own gardening, or be anxious about who they’re letting into their home, as I take care of that! As a House Manager, I’m also here in a supportive role for the residents who can come to me if they have a problem or want information about the local area. I’ll keep an eye on things, but I don’t interfere.
“We understand that people want to retain their independence for as long as possible and they get that here. We’re not a nursing home, we’re a community and this is a place where people live – with the emphasis on living! We have lots of social events which help people get to know each other, from outings to fish and chip suppers and the regular coffee mornings, but how much or how little people want to participate is completely up to them.”
Resident John Massey added: “Dawn’s title is House Manager and she is a very good House Manager, but she is much more than a manager. Dawn is a very cheery person with a great personality and she’s a friend to everyone. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she is always there to give any help and advice that is needed - she is a joy to have around. Each morning Dawn begins her work she brings a lot of happiness with her and I hope she stays here until she retires.”
In celebration of Neighbours’ Day, McCarthy & Stone is inviting people in Stockport to come and meet the house manger and their (potential) new neighbours.
