Households looking to cut bills do not have to invest in expensive technologies or home improvements, according to one expert.
Ofgem, the energy regulator, published figures last month that showed that solar panel uptake has reached record levels in the UK.
More than 2,000 homeowners have had the panels fitted on their properties in order to benefit from the feed-in tariff scheme.
Not all energy-saving measures are costly – small changes can make significant reductions in the size of bills.
Michael Holmes, spokesperson for the National Home Improvement Show, tells households that monitoring habits is crucial.
Washing by dishwasher can save on water consumption, as can flushing less. In addition to this, fixing a leaky tap can save up to 5,000 litres of water annually.
Rather than investing in a new boiler, cash-strapped new home movers could simply place a jacket around an older, less efficient one.
This can save up to ten per cent on bills, while using old materials for under-door insulation can also reduce heat loss.
