McCarthy and Stone’s new retirement development in Warminster is to be named Imber Court after the historic serviceman training site at the village of Imber. The name was suggested by Major Bill Willmott and retired Major Roddy Mellotte from the local army garrison in Warminster, after the retirement developer invited locals to come up with a name for its new development.
Both Major Willmott and Major Mellotte met with McCarthy & Stone at Imber Court this week where they were presented with their prize, a cheque for £100, which both men have asked be donated to the Garrison Welfare Fund.
Major Bill Willmott comments: “We knew that McCarthy & Stone is supporting The Royal British Legion this year so we wanted to come up with a name that not only reflected the history of the local area but also had a military connection as well – Imber Court seemed fitting.”
Major Roddy Mellotte explains: “During the Second World War a manor house in the village of Imber, called Imber Court, was requisitioned by the War Office for use as a military training facility. The house and the village were never returned to the residents and remains, to this day, within a restricted military training area, which is only accessible to the public for two short periods of the year.”
Aileen King, sales and marketing director for McCarthy & Stone South West, comments: “When Bill and Roddy suggested Imber Court as the name for our new development and explained to us the military significance of the name, we thought it was a perfect fit. We know from our fundraising with The Royal British Legion just how important it is to support our servicemen and women, past and present, and we are proud that we are able to honour local military history in this way.”
McCarthy & Stone’s Imber Court development is located on George Street in Warminster. Construction started in February 2010 and when complete, will offer 39 one and two bedroom Retirement Living apartments exclusively for the over 60s. First occupations are scheduled for early 2011.
Each apartment will include a range of specialist features such as 24 hour emergency call points, electrical sockets at a raised height to reduce bending, illuminated light switches, a security entry system, easy grip lever taps in the bathroom and kitchen and energy efficient heating.
The development will also benefit from landscaped grounds, a residents’ lounge and a guest suite.
