Housing minister Grant Shapps today pledged to tackle regulation and red tape that, he says, blight efforts to start new developments.

Speaking at today's Housing Market Intelligence conference, Shapps called on the assembled industry leaders to work with government in a drive to simplify the system.

"I am determined to make it easier to build homes in this country," he said. " I want to simplify the process for housebuilders to meet the standards communities demand."
