The government has published its update to the Code for Sustainable Homes.

CLG said that the revised Code was the first step in making green homes easier for developers to deliver.

As proposed in the consultation on the Code, the government will align the Code with updated Building Regulations. CLG said that it would “strongly incentivise” the introduction of fabric efficiency standards, and that the Code would reflect future goals for zero carbon homes.

The Code is being streamlined to remove regulatory duplications or unnecessary standards, such as Liftetime Homes in steeply sloping sites.

The new Code will also resolve difficulties arising from its use, for example, clarifying standards that reduce flood risk.

Housing minister Grant Shapps said: “I’ve pledged to tackle the ‘alphabet soup’ of standards and red tape that blights efforts to start new developments and will work with industry to get this done.”
