Retirement specialist, McCarthy & Stone, is celebrating after being presented with a prestigious Secured by Design Award for its Lorne Court development in Moseley, Birmingham.
The developer was presented with the accolade by Sergeant Eaves, Sergeant Wharton and Sergeant Gregory from the West Midlands Police Crime Reduction Team. During their recent visit to the Moseley Retirement Living development, they took the opportunity to discuss with visitors simple yet highly effective methods to safeguard their properties.
Secured by Design is the official police flagship initiative supporting the principles of 'designing out crime’ in homes and commercial premises.
Every apartment at Lorne Court provides the highest levels of security with a camera entry system, in addition to sophisticated fire detection equipment, intruder alarms, double glazing, key operated window locks and security contacts to all ground floor windows and entrance doors.
In addition, every main room has call points that put the resident in direct contact with the House Manager or, if she/he is out, the emergency Careline system provides 24 hour cover, 365 days a year, by putting them in touch with a dedicated team of operatives.
Robin Pike, regional sales and marketing director, comments: “We are delighted to win this special award, demonstrating our commitment to building homes, which significantly reduce the risks and fear of crime. Security is hugely important to the older home owner. That's why McCarthy & Stone pays such great attention to the security features designed into every new scheme we build.
“Buying a new property provides that extra level of confidence and is also reflected in lower insurance premiums. With the additional benefits of owning a new home, such as decreased fuel bills and DIY costs, coupled with the range of incentives and schemes currently available, you can make some considerable reductions to your outgoings.”
Sergeant Gregory comments: “We wish to congratulate McCarthy & Stone on their Secured by Design Award, which proves the importance of thoughtful planning and design when it comes to preventing crime. Now that the clocks have gone back and the darker evenings are starting to set in, it is the ideal time to start thinking about your home security. A burglar only needs to spot an open window or an unlocked door or gate to make their move. Look at your home through the burglar's eyes - if you think your security looks poor, chances are so will a thief.”
Lorne Court offers a collection of 39 one and two bedroom retirement apartments priced from £119,950. The development is located in the highly sought after leafy suburb of Moseley, within easy walking distance to a superb range of shops, restaurants and amenities in the village. Excellent transport links ensure that the culture, museums, shopping centres and bright lights of Birmingham city centre are only minutes away, for residents of this new development.
