Steve Lees, Director at smartnewhomes.com, comments on the HBF’s ‘Reconstructing our Regions’ Report, out today:

“Given that building levels are already at record low levels, the supply of new homes will be one of, if not the, key indicator of the health of the property market in 2011.

“The figures in the HBF report will come as no surprise to the housebuilding community, who are well aware of the benefits that development can bring. Up until now the government has been dragging its heels in addressing the issues that are holding back the sector, namely the bureaucratic planning system and a restrictive mortgage market. Encouraging housebuilding would be a success for the government on many different fronts – it remains to be seen whether the Localism Bill will actually deliver the much-needed new homes.”
