Young people are keener than any other age group to own their own home, a major poll has revealed today (January 31).
The Barratt HomeBuyers’ Panel has shown that 86% of under-30s would rather have their own home than job satisfaction or a certain amount of disposal income.
Also, 44% of respondents aged between 18 and 29 described the housing wealth generated by the over-40s thanks to rising house prices as “unfair.” Only 10% of participants aged between 40 and 65 agreed.
Barratt’s chief executive Mark Clare said: "Signs of friction between the generations are now starting to emerge as a direct consequence of relative housing wealth. Significant numbers of people appear to be delaying key life decisions because they cannot take that all-important first step on the housing ladder.”
The poll consisted of 2,465 respondents. It is the second annual survey by independent polling firm ComRes.
