The Ruthin Division of charity St John Cymru Wales received a welcome surprise recently in the form of a £1,774 donation from house builder Taylor Wimpey North West.
The donation, part of the house builder's 'Deserving Causes' campaign, was made after the team at Taylor Wimpey Glasdir's development in Ruthin discovered the charity was trying to raise funds to buy an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for its Ruthin headquarters.
Vicky Dowell, regional community fundraiser for St John Cymru Wales, said: "The AED is a vital piece of emergency equipment and the single greatest advance in out-of-hospital treatment for cardiac arrest since the invention of CPR so needless to say we're absolutely thrilled to have received this kind donation from Taylor Wimpey.
"This AED will be readily available on one of the two emergency vehicles situated in Ruthin and I'm sure it'll be used to save many lives in the future."
Julie Harper, regional sales manager for Taylor Wimpey North West, added: "It's fantastic the donation has been used to purchase such an essential piece of lifesaving equipment. St John Cymru Wales provides a crucial service to the local community and we're delighted that we've been able to help them improve their facilities."
In addition to this donation the house builder has also pledged to donate £500 for every house sold at its Glasdir development in Ruthin in 2011 to the 'Michelle Jones Memorial Fund', set up by Gareth Jones after his wife Michelle sadly died aged just 30 from skin cancer.
All funds raised will be divided between the District Nurses, the National Association of Colitis & Crohns, the Willow Foundation and another locally based cancer charity.
