The UK's largest retirement specialist, McCarthy & Stone, celebrated the 90th anniversary of its chosen charity, The Royal British Legion at the Portman Court development in Uckfield last week.
Residents and staff at the Assisted Living development marked the day in style by hosting a tea party and enjoying a huge poppy shaped cake in the residents' lounge.
The event was extra special for a number of the residents, who are also celebrating their 90th Birthdays this year.
Gladys Kerwin, who turns 90 in September, commented: "I am sure I will be celebrating my birthday, but have made no plans as yet so I am pleased to be included in the party today.
"I very much admire the work The Royal British Legion does. They are always there to help our young men when they return from war zones, and I am happy McCarthy & Stone is supporting them in this way."
Sharon Callcut, regional marketing manager for McCarthy & Stone added: "We wanted to host an event which would serve as a fitting tribute to both our residents and The Royal British Legion in this very special year
"The sense of community and companionship is infectious here at Portman Court, and we sincerely hope that all our visitors enjoyed the party as much as we did."
The Royal British Legion is McCarthy & Stone's 'Charity of the Year' for 2010/2011. As part of its commitment to the cause, the developer has raised over £39,000 throughout the course of the past 12 months, which will help to provide financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served or are serving in the armed forces, and their families.
Situated within easy reach of Uckfield's historic town centre, with its array of local shops and amenities, Portman Court is a development of 46 one and two bedroom Assisted Living apartments built exclusively for those aged 65 and over, who may need a little extra assistance with day to day life.
In addition to a low maintenance property, residents can enjoy landscaped gardens and a residents' lounge and family and friends can even come and stay in a hotel- style guest suite and enjoy lunch in the waitress service restaurant. Prices start from £195,950.
