A GROUP of property professionals are once again gearing up for a 130 mile cycle ride after the charity challenge was delayed by a freak accident.

Mike Atkinson and pals were due to have ridden from Scarborough to Morecombe in May in aid of Martin House Children's Hospice, in Wetherby, and the Being Bel Trust, in Ilkley, set up to buy care and equipment for Bel Young, a former Moorfield School pupil who was paralysed in a fall from a climbing frame. But the challenge was postponed after Mike suffered substantial injuries and his bike was written off when he crashed in training.

"I was riding downhill on a training ride when I rode over a pothole and my wheel buckled. I flew off the bike and slid along the ground for 30 yards. I didn't have much skin left on my back or legs, bruised my ribs and had to buy a new bike," Mike, of Leeds-based Atkinson Associates, explained.

Rather than leave Mike out of the event, the group - Simon Prest, senior land manager for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), in Wakefield, Neil Robinson, legal director at housebuilder Redrow's headquarters near Chester, Neil Clark of Bracken Developments, also in Leeds, and Mark Taylforth of Pendle Property Developments, in Kelbrook, east Lancashire - decided to wait until he had recovered.

The delay means that property consultant Peter Lynas will also take part in the re-arranged event on July 13 and 14.

"I've only just started to get my fitness levels back up but the others have all been training hard and are raring to go," Mike added.

So far they have raised more than £1,000 towards their £2,000 target.

As well as the support of family, friends and colleagues, the five are hoping that their property industry peers will get behind them and make their fund raising efforts a free-wheeling success. They've set up a page on the JustGiving website to make donating easy. Go to: http://www.justgiving.com/2011coast2coast. Donations for the Being Bel Trust should be made direct to Mike Atkinson at Atkinson Associates, but details can be found on the JustGiving page.
