Leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has contributed £500 to help a Northamptonshire man buy a custom-built wheelchair, in association with its Paddock Fields development of property for sale in Gretton, Corby.

A donation by Taylor Wimpey has topped up a fund to buy a young Northamptonshire man the state-of-the-art new wheelchair he urgently needs.

The leading housebuilder has donated £500 towards the purchase of the custom-made chair for Daniel Neild (28), who lives close to Taylor Wimpey's new Paddock Fields development of houses for sale in Gretton, Corby.

Daniel's fundraising total now stands at £2,500, which will be swelled by a grant from the NHS Wheelchair Service, meaning he can now order his new chair.

Daniel, who has been wheelchair bound since breaking his neck at the age of 23 in a car accident five years ago, says: "I had to have a hip removed which means my current chair is not good for my posture or my spine, so to have a wheelchair designed specifically for my needs and comfort is something that I have wanted for some time.

"I want to thank Taylor Wimpey Northamptonshire for its generous donation, and Julie Powell at Gretton Post Office & Stores for organising the fundraising.

"Julie has been brilliant, she was the one who got in touch with Taylor Wimpey about my fund, and has done lots of things to help raise the money, like selling fruit and veg donated by villagers at the post office.

"My dad Trevor has also been a massive help, kicking off the fundraising by painting pictures of houses in Gretton and selling them to villagers. So many friends and family have done so much for me, and I want to thank them all."

Julie, who runs the High Street post office with husband and sub-postmaster Mike, says: "Daniel's a lovely lad and is very much part of the Gretton family, and everybody in the village is keen to rally round to do whatever we can to make him more comfortable.

"I've not been surprised at all by the compassion and generosity shown by people in the village, as there are some wonderful people living here.

"To have Taylor Wimpey make such a large donation is great news, especially as it means Daniel will soon be able to get out and about more, and in more comfort."

Janet Robinson, Sales Manager for Taylor Wimpey East Midlands, says: "As soon as Julie approached us about Daniel we wanted to help in any way we could.

"We have been so impressed by the way his friends, family and the local community have supported him, and by helping to top up the wheelchair fund we hope Daniel can now lead a more comfortable life."

Customers can visit the Paddock Fields Sales Centre and show home, located in Corby Road, Gretton, and open seven days a week between 10am and 5pm.
