McCarthy & Stone, the UK market leader in retirement living, has chosen Barnardo's as its 'Charity of the Year'. The company aims to raise at least £50,000 for the organisation, which provides much needed support for over 100,000 children across 400 projects nationally.
The partnership was launched this week (4th October). McCarthy & Stone aims to raise the full amount over the next 12 months through a combination of events plus fundraising and volunteering initiatives on nearly 150 developments across the UK.
The monies raised will go to specially selected Barnardo's projects, which will be chosen by McCarthy & Stone's five regional offices. In addition, McCarthy & Stone will be launching a pilot construction apprenticeship scheme in Scotland, in partnership with Barnardo's, offering young people an opportunity to train and develop. If successful, this initiative will be rolled out across the rest of the UK.
McCarthy & Stone's chief executive, Howard Phillips, believes Barnardo's is a charity with which the developer's residents have a real affinity. He explains: "Our customers are all over 60 and there is a special connection that exists between young and old. Just as we at McCarthy & Stone focus on improving independence in later life, Barnardo's in turn aims to create independent lives for children and young people. As such, we are delighted to be partnering with them over the coming year."
Helena Burley, corporate relationship manager from Barnardo's, comments: "I am really looking forward to working in partnership with McCarthy & Stone. The people I have met and spoken with are full of great ideas and lots and lots of enthusiasm for Barnardo's and the work we do with disadvantaged children."
McCarthy & Stone, Britain's leading retirement builder, provides two different kinds of development dependent on customer's needs. Retirement Living schemes offer an active, independent retirement lifestyle with the peace of mind of additional security, low maintenance and companionship. In comparison, McCarthy & Stone's Assisted Living developments are designed for those requiring a little more help and support in later life, with additional facilities such as a waitress service restaurant and flexible support services including personal care and domestic assistance. Both offer continued home ownership.
McCarthy & Stone is currently offering a range of purpose built one and two bedroom apartments at developments across the South East.
