Taylor Wimpey is calling for descendants of the Lysaght family and workers at The Orb Works in Newport to help recreate a photography from the early 1970s which was discovered in the company archives.
The photograph shows Mrs G Lysaght and other factory employees planting a commemorative tree outside the landmark Lysaght Institute in Newport. Taylor Wimpey's Lysaght Village development is built on the site of the former steelworks and to mark National Tree Week at the end of November, the housebuilder is hoping to recreate the original tree planting with descendants of the people featured in the photograph.
Sara Taylor, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey South Wales said: "Our Lysaght Village development was named after the Lysaght family to celebrate the family's influence in Newport's success. Work on the former steelworks factory uncovered some fascinating documents and when we came across this particular photograph we thought it would be a lovely tribute to try and recreate the occasion."
The photograph, which is believed to have been taken in the early 1970s, features Mrs G Lysaght, Mrs P Stead, Mrs Les Talbot, Ron Gardener, Philip Stead (Manager Primary Process), Jim Vinsen (Chief Engineer), Don Rees (Mechanical Engineer), George Short (General Manager), Les Talbot, Keith Duncan (Annealing Manager), Ian McDonald and Ted Hiscocks.
Sara added: "We are looking for people who are related to anyone in the original photograph to come forward and be part of our commemorative tree planting on site at the end of November. We don't have much information on the people featured or why the tree was planted so it would be great to hear from anyone that has any further information or links with The Orb who can provide more details."
