Up to 200 new homes could be built in the Devon village of Appledore under plans submitted to the local council.

Torridge District Council is asking local people for their opinion on the new development, which would be located on the 7.24 hectare site to the west of Hubbastone Road.

The new homes would sit adjacent to the recently announced Torridge Marina development, according to the North Devon Gazette.

Featuring 295 homes, a small food store and restaurant, the marina would be located between Appledore and Northam.

The proposal submitted also includes up to 80 holiday apartments and the 40-room Burgess Manor Hotel.

Commenting on the plans for the new homes in Appledore, managing director at the developer Ian Jewson said: "The council has outlined plans to put housing on this land as part of their regeneration scheme, and the proposal is for up to 200 houses, although the exact amount is still to be decided."

If both proposals are approved, the area could receive nearly 500 new homes.ADNFCR-1100-ID-801267659-ADNFCR
